Proposal for the Chips Act 2.0

June 5, 2026

The proposed EU Chips Act 2.0 introduces additional measures to strengthen Europe’s semiconductor industry, reduce strategic dependencies on third countries, and support the development of advanced chip production within the EU.

The act builds on the achievements of the original Chips Act and will further reinforce Europe’s existing strengths while accelerating the development of cutting-edge semiconductor technologies.

It also complements other key European initiatives, such as the Cloud and AI Development Act (CADA) and the EU Open Source Strategy, contributing to a more competitive, secure, and resilient European digital economy. Key highlights:

  • Strengthening research, innovation, and technological leadership in semiconductors
  • Expanding production capacity and ensuring secure supply chains
  • Reducing external dependencies and enhancing technological sovereignty
  • Attracting talent and developing skills and competencies in the sector
