The national Competition in Technology Knowledge for primary school students

March 13, 2026

On 7 March 2026, the national Competition in Technology Knowledge for 8th and 9th grade primary school students was held at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Ljubljana.

One of the two topics in the competition programme was entitled “From Sand to Smartphone”. Through this topic, primary school students were introduced to the world of integrated circuits – chips and their presence in everyday life.

The session presented the complete chip development cycle, from the initial idea, design and simulations to mask layout preparation, fabrication processes on silicon wafers, testing, and chip packaging.

The topic and its delivery were prepared by KC Čip.si in collaboration with Ajda Tuševski, Janez Trotenlj Jr., and Jurij Podržaj.
