The lab part of the course has recently been updated to emphasize an extensive hands\u2011on approach: students design, simulate, lay out, and measure a complete project involving their own photonic chip.<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>After an introductory module covering photonics fundamentals and tutorials on software tools, students can choose a topic and work independently on their project. At the end of the course, they submit their final chip designs, which are then fabricated at a commercial open\u2011access photonic foundry.
